Honor a veteran

On this Veterans Day, honor the veterans in your life by participating in the Illinois Veterans’ History Project. Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White officially launched the Illinois Veterans' History Project in November 2005. The Illinois Veterans' History Project began with the collection of written information about Illinois veterans through use of the Illinois Patriot Information Form. Oral histories of Illinois veterans were recorded, beginning in September 2007.

Veterans or their family members can complete this form and share their remembrances on the back or on a separate sheet of paper. Those who participate will receive an Official Certificate of Appreciation for their participation in this project.

Additionally, participants may submit an oral recorded history that will be placed in the Illinois Digital Archives and the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.

Access more than 6,000 digitized Illinois Patriot Forms in the Illinois Digital Archive; view over 300 interviews on the Illinois Veterans YouTube channel; then, visit the Illinois Veterans’ History Project to learn what you can do.
