Today in History - From Grolier Go!

While we are engulfed in Cubs Fever and baseball post-season play-offs, it is interesting to note that today is the birthday of baseball great Mickey Mantle who led the New York Yankees to 7 World Series titles.

Grolier Online (GO!) teams with the Library of Congress to present "Today in History," a fun and educational feature. Explore Grolier Online to find information in formats specifically for elementary school kids, middle grades, high school and adults, including current events, interactive maps, dictionaries, and:
  • Over 125,000 articles, all correlated to national and state standards;
  • More than 340,000 editor-vetted Weblinks; and
  • Over 1,100 world newspapers in 73 languages, representing 195 countries.
A search for "Chicago Cubs" finds current magazine articles about the team and their wonderful season. Hopefully, Jon Lester, Jake Arrieta, and the rest of the Cubs pitchers will lead the Cubs to this year's World Series!

Try Grolier Go! and see what you discover. All you need is your Library card and PIN

box  It includes three general reference databases:
  • The New Book of Knowledge, which is suitable for elementary-school and middle-school students;
  • Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, which is suitable for middle-school and high-school students; and
  • Encyclopedia Americana, which is appropriate for high-school students and beyond.
and access to The New Book of Popular Science, which is appropriate for both middle-school and high-school students and America the Beautiful, which covers state-by-state history and current events for elementary-school and middle-school students. Grolier Online also has La Nueva Enciclopedia Cumbre, a comprehensive encyclopedia for middle-school and high-school students who are Spanish speakers or Spanish-language students.
