Lincoln Library Needs Help Transcribing Civil War Documents

Are you fascinated by Illinois history, Abraham Lincoln, and the Civil War? Would you like an opportunity to get "up close and personal" with historic documents of the Civil War era?

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is asking the public to help transcribe thousands of pages of handwritten documents created by Richard Yates Sr., governor of Illinois during the Civil War.

Volunteers are encouraged to set up an account on the Chronicling Illinois website, read a document and type the text into a box at the bottom of the webpage. When they're finished the document is saved and put in a file for other volunteers to review.

What a great opportunity to preserve Illinois history and "give back" in a meaningful way!
