Pic from the Past...Got Snow?

Yes, we got a bunch of snow, but we've also got snow blowers, snow plows and other "modern" ways to clear it away. Imagine what it was like back in 1918!

During the great snow of 1918, the Southwestern Limited (westbound from Chicago to Kansas City) stalled west of Roselle in the snowdrifts. Roselle resident Emil Benhart used his bobsleds to transport passengers from the stranded train to Roselle homes. It was three days before the line was reopened.

In this photo from the Historical Museum's Digital Archive, onlookers watch railroad employees working to free the snowbound train.
