News for eMediaLibrary users...

After polling the members of the eMediaLibrary consortium, the selection committee has decided to lower the checkout limits for ebooks and audiobooks from 10 to 5. The number of items a user may have “on hold” has also been reduced from 10 to 5. The change will be effective April 15.

The decision was made because of the unprecedented increase in usage of the eMediaLibrary service, especially the usage of ebooks. With the lower checkout limit, more items will be "available" for checkout.

On a related topic, if you have been following the controversy over HarperCollins’ decision to limit library-purchased ebooks to 26 circulations, you will be interested to know that the consortium has decided not to buy any HC titles until the issue is resolved.

OverDrive has responded by placing HC titles into a separate catalog so that selection committees can easily identify HC titles. HC titles already in the collection are not affected.
