Donate Your Gym Shoes @ your library

This year, the Roselle Public Library District is joining with SCARCE (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education) to collect used gym shoes. The shoes will be given to SCARCE, who in turn will donate shoes in good condition to a variety of charities such as PADs, Salvation Army, Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans and Amvets, as well as international relief programs. The remaining shoes will be donated to Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe program.

Once the shoes are delivered to Nike, they will be demanufactured so that the recycled “Nike Grind” material can be used to make new products. By recycling old gym shoes, Nike decreases the environmental impact of using new raw materials and saves used shoes from being sent to landfills. To learn more about what happens to the shoes that are recycled, please visit Nike’s Reuse-A-Shoe website (www.nikereuseashoe.com).

Please bring in your used gym shoes when visiting the Roselle Public Library between April 19 and May 17, 2010 and help others as well as the environment! The Roselle Public Library is located at 40 South Park Street, Roselle, IL, 60172. Contact the Library with any questions at (630) 529-1641 or check our website, www.roselle.lib.il.us.
