Roselle Reads! Join us!

Join the Roselle Public Library in September as we read John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath.
Children can join in, too, reading Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan.
Both stories deal with the plight of migrant workers in Southern California during the Depression.
Several other events are scheduled during the month of September for adults and for children to learn more about the Great Depression and life on the farm in the United States.

- Themed storytimes for children begin the week of 9/8. Participants will be "Visiting the Farm."
- Thursday, 9/10, participate in a round-table discussion of peoples' reminiscences of the Great Depression as A Community Remembers the Great Depression.
- Sunday, 9/16, begins with Bucky Halker singing and discussing Protest Songs of the Great Depression at 1:30 pm, and continues at 3:00 pm with Rick Wartzman, author of Obscene in the Extreme, discussing his book about public reaction to The Grapes of Wrath.
- Monday, 9/17, find out more about grapes and wine as Roselle Reads @ Lynfred Winery wine tasting and tour. (a Roselle Library card is required to participate)
- Tuesday and Wednesday, 9/18-19, both evening book discussion groups will talk about The Grapes of Wrath.
- Thursday, 9/19, children in Kindergarten to 2nd grade make "Barnyard Buddies" crafts during the Kreative Kids session.
- Thursday, 9/19, join David Stark from the Art Institute for an illustrated lecture about the art produced during the Great Depression by artists employed under the federally-funded Works Progress Administration.
- Sunday, 9/20, have Dinner and a Movie at the Library. Watch the original version of the movie, "The Grapes of Wrath," starring Henry Fonda and taste Depression-era foods.
- Monday, 9/21, Books 'n' Pizza book discussion group for 3rd to 5th graders will discuss Esperanza Rising.

Most programs require registration. See the online Calendar for more information and to register online.
