"Warm Up America" update

As part of the Library's September 11th Celebration of Democracy, Freedom and Patriotism, several staff members and patrons helped to knit, crochet and assemble afghans to "Warm Up America."
The afghans have been donated to Stepping Stones, a program that helps women and children escape domestic violence and get a fresh start. Diana Eckert, Co-Executive Director of Stepping Stones, accepted the afghans on behalf of the organization.

Stepping Stones, based in Roselle, provides transitional housing for victims, as well as public education services. Volunteers contribute transportation, basic necessities, fundraising and professional services.
The organization was recently awarded a 2005 Governor's Home Town Award, which recognizes the "hard work and dedication of thousands of volunteers across Illinois whose efforts have greatly improved the communities in which they live."
